Highlights from 2015

Pushing up Daisies Festival 2015 was the first of its kind in the UK as afar as we know - a whole week of people in a community coming together to try and have more conversations around Death and Dying,

PUD (Pushing up Daisies) basecamp was at the wonderful community space that is the Unitarian Church and people could pop in all week to make a shoebox shrine, a seed bomb from cremation ashes, a cushion from Grandma's old jumper or a teddy from someone's shirt. There was tea and cake, places to sit and think, a memory wall to write a dedication and live music to help is all swill down.

Water Street Gallery held a wonderful  exhibition of work by local artists  expressing their take on death and dying in different media from painting to sculpture and installations. There was a miniature replica of Richard III's funereal urn, a triptych of angry cancer-attached lungs, tiny delicate figurines that felt as if they were mummified babies from a long-gone era.

Mr Wilsons Second Liners are a New Orleans Style Funeral Band without the body playing 90s Manchester-inspired rave classics. Yep, you read that right.

Bringing party atmos in a big way they helped us bring the week long festival to a stomping close. They were only followed by our Dead Good Pub Quiz and the unforgettable Death by Powerpoint presentation by Mary Clear on pretty much everything she does and doesn't know about death.
